1. Take a walk along the promenade

The boardwalk is Atlantic City’s most famous and popular attraction, and it’s packed with fun things to do. Just about everything worth seeing in the city borders the four-mile-long main stretch of woodland initially built-in 1870, most of which survived Hurricane Sandy of 2012.

Quickly explored on foot, in the iconic electric tram, or a famous wheelchair – oversized wicker chairs pushed like a rickshaw – this is a beautiful place to see and be seen as you catch a sea breeze, witness a show or have a meal or go shopping while the children let off steam in the arcades.

Among the attractions on the promenade is the famous Entrance of the Stars, Atlantic City’s version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here you’ll see handprints from stars such as Johnny Carson, Cher, Stevie Wonder, and Frank Sinatra.

Located at the northern end of Atlantic City, the 228-step Absecon Lighthouse is still notable for installing a first-rate Fresnel lens when the structure was constructed in 1857. At 171 feet, it is the tallest lighthouse. High. The third-longest of its kind from New Jersey and the United States.

Few seaside attractions are as iconic as Lucy, a 65-foot, six-story wooden and tin elephant built in the small coastal town of Margate in 1881 to lure potential buyers to the area’s summer homes. Since then, Lucya has been a tavern, a summer house and an observation deck.

After being saved from near-extinction in the 1960s, Lucy is now proud of Josephine Harron Park and listed in the National Park of Historic Monuments. Highlights of a tour of the oldest novelty architecture in the United States include ascending the spiral staircase to the “howdah,” the small hut-like structure on its back, with its magnificent panoramic views. Fun guided tours are available.

This historical place is also where you’ll find the world’s largest musical instrument, a pipe organ with 33,000 pipes, eight chambers, and 1,000 stop keys. The organ is currently the subject of a major restoration project which should be completed in 2023.
