Without a doubt the most adorable romantic restaurant in town. You’ll feel like you’re dining in a chalet in the French Alps, which makes sense since co-owner Raphael Derly is a former French skier. Present in our most delicious cheese dishes in the land of snow, onion soup is a jug of existential happiness; the sweet and savoury pancakes are large, filling and tasty. Wait on a rainy day to try the fondue or spring for the cheeseboard. It’s hard to go wrong here unless it’s your pronunciation of Shokoladepalatschinke (chocolate pancake, filled with chocolate ganache, dulce de leche, strawberries and bananas, with whipped cream). Pick the few tables outside when the weather is nice.

The third Colorado outpost (in Vail and Denver) of the sushi god Nobu Matsuhisa’s empire is set in one of the most humble places: a historic Victorian in hues of bluebells on the corner of Main and North Monarch. Be prepared to ditch a severe bank, whatever your appetite, but the experience will make you even more prosperous. Non-sushi appetizers include miso grilled black cod and lobster tacos; the Omakase menu is a godsend for Aspen, starting at $ 100 / person. We also like the patio to see and see. For a “cheap” meal, order up a pie and a pitcher, but things get hopping when the bars close. While Aspen’s jaw-dropping new art museum has raised some eyebrows, there’s no debate about the spectacular and straightforward coffee on its ceiling. Executive Chef, Julia Domingos and her husband / GM Allen have created charming and inspiring lunch menus from 11: 30-2: 30 that changes every Tuesday. Espresso has already gained a cult following in a city where lousy coffee is everywhere, but the food also deserves the endorsement.

There’s panini, salads, a kid’s plate, house cakes, beer, wine by the glass … all in an ultra-modern white space accented by glass beams, concrete, and blond cross-hatched ceilings. The courtyard and nearly 360-degree views of downtown Aspen and Ajax don’t hurt, but what’s remarkable is the lack of crowds and the resulting serenity.

302 Hopkins

Aspen, CO

This ever-leaping little Victorian from East Hopkins has made a name for himself with the stacked chicken sandwich, burgers and monstrous salads. The menu, although succinct, covers all the basics:

  • Kale salad.
  • “Macho salad” (roast chicken, mixed greens, avocado, dates, goat cheese, toasted almonds, fresh corn).
  • Heavenly queso dip (more like cheese).

Super creamy chilli), hand-cut fries and even creamed corn. The wine and cocktail list have excellent offerings, and the blond wood-panelled walls and sleek ornaments have made this rustic-mod space a nice place to hang for a casual lunch or dinner. Mark a table outside for a view of Aspen Mountain. It is the place we come back to every time we are in town.
